Link Building – Important Strategies from Bing

gsb_107_08Previously, SEO Companies & Experts were always following Google guidelines to find out how our SEO efforts should be. Google always shaped the SEO activities.

But now Bing is also in the battle. For First Time, Bing has provided really valuable information for Link Building. Rick DeJarnette of Bing Webmaster Center has shared some dos and don’ts of link-building for Bing. Most of these does not differ too much from advice that Google would give you. It is, however, still always nice to see how they feel, just to clear up any possible confusion.

Like Google, Bing places great emphasis on quality links to determine its rankings. “Just don’t make the mistake of believing it will result in instant gratification. Successful link building efforts require a long-term commitment, not an overnight or turnkey solution,” says DeJarnette. “You need to continually invest in link building efforts with creativity and time.”

Social Media and Email Marketing

socialmediaSocial Media can really help Email marketers to increase their reach. With the advent of social media, people love to share things they like. So if they find your email interesting or useful, they will definitely share it with their friends.

According to a study, about eight in 10 marketers agreed that social sharing, an e-mail tactic that allows e-mail recipients to share email content on social networks and social media sites, “extends the reach of e-mail content to new marketers” and “increases brand reputation and awareness.” Not everything is sunshine in the universe of e-mail marketers when it comes to social sharing; 47 percent are unsure or disagree that social sharing increases the ROI of e-mail programs, 53 percent are unsure or disagree that social sharing accelerates the growth of e-mail lists, and 60 percent are unsure or disagree that it generates more qualified leads.

Twitter-Bing collaboration, What will be the effect on SEO?

twitterYou can now search Twitter database from Bing. Is not that great?

Bing has reached an agreement to crawl all of Twitter’s public results in real time. Bing’s Twitter search — Bing.com/Twitter — is already live.

In a demo by Yusuf Mehdi, senior vice president of the online audience business group at Microsoft, a number of advances were immediately apparent. The most important for Twitter fans is that Bing reorders the massive, unwieldy Twitter stream by creating a “social relevance” score based on the quality of the tweet — “Life sucks” for instance, would not achieve high relevance — as well as the popularity of the tweeter. Then the tweet is run through spam and obscenity filtration to get a final result.

Bing-Twitter search also allows users to separate the most popular embedded links from the tweets that surround them, allowing people to understand the source of a conversation without having to endure the din surrounding it. Bing-Twitter also expands a tweet’s bit url and shows users the real domain, creating greater transparency before you click. In short, Bing makes Twitter make sense.

For Microsoft, latching onto Twitter’s rise is more than just a big marketing win; it’s also a technological victory. Twitter is a huge, previously untapped resource in the movement toward search that relies on real-time data rather than archived links. (There was also a strong industry rumor that a similar deal between Bing and Facebook had been reached, though neither party commented on that.)

So What will be the next move by Google?

Social Media – Free and Easy Online Marketing

socialmediaSocial media marketing can take on many forms — a blog; a Facebook, Twitter or MySpace page; a LinkedIn profile; or a viral video on YouTube … to name a few.

What Is Social Media Marketing?

Social media marketing is a form of Internet marketing used to generate publicity or exposure via an online community.

Social media sites allow users to become part of an online network, in which they can blog, share photos and ideas, and chat with friends or colleagues. Many marketers recognize the advantage of these online communities, and now use them to target potential (and existing) customers.

And, how exactly are these potential customers targeted? For members of online communities, it’s all about who your friends know. Users can see who friends and colleagues are connected to; this raises awareness of your brand with friends of friends … and beyond.

Why Market Through Social Media?

Social media marketing provides many benefits for businesses:

Microsoft ready to Bang Google with Bing

bingNow after Wolfram Alpha, Microsoft has showcased a new search engine, Bing, which will specifically focus on travel, shopping, health and local business results. The Redmond-based giant is marketing the new website as a ‘decision engine’ that provides more detailed information than standard search results.

“Today, search engines do a decent job of helping people navigate the Web and find information, but they don’t do a very good job of enabling people to use the information they find,” said Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO.

Human Ear Could Be Next Biometric System

Biometric technique to use ear as third-party identification being investigated by British scientists.ear

British scientists are investigating the viability of a new biometric technique that would make use of the human ear as a way for a third party to identify the person they are speaking to.

According to a report in the New Scientist, instead of asking for passwords or pin numbers, a call centre or bank would simply use a device on their telephone to produce a brief series of clicks in the recipients ear to make sure the person is who they say they are.

The New Scientist says the idea is based on something called otoacoustic emissions (OAEs), the ear-generated sounds that emanate from within the spiral-shaped cochlea in the inner ear. They are thought to be produced by the motion of hair cells within the outer part of the cochlea. Typically, sounds entering the ear cause these outer hair cells to vibrate, and these vibrations are converted to electrical signals which are transmitted along the auditory nerve, allowing the sound to be sensed. Crucially, these cells also create their own sounds as they expand and contract.

Google announces new search tools to counter-fight Wolfram Alpha

Days after Wolfram Alpha was described as ‘Google Killer’, Google upped it ante in the ‘war of the search engines’ and released a new set of tools.

Wolfram Alpha, the new computational search engine, is set to go live on Monday May 15 at 7pm CST. The search engine, which is based on Mathematica and founder Stephen Wolfram’s own New Kind of Science, will provide users with answers to factual questions, unlike Google which simply provides websites which may or may not contain the required information. And far from worrying about possible technical glitches that might disrupt the launch, Wolfram has decided to film the whole process for users to watch. He said: “We hope that it’ll be interesting for people to join us as we work through these in real time.”

Alternatives of Google Adsense

Google Adsense has been the choice of Webmasters and Bloggers to earn some bucks out of web contents while providing rich experience to their visitors. Google Adsense displays targeted Google ads on website’s content pages and earn from valid clicks or impressions. AdSense gives access to Google’s vast network of advertisers, so it can show ads that are suited to visitor’s interests.

With time, lot of other Companies came in battle to provide better and better experience to visitors and good outcome for Webmasters. In my view, webmasters should use a mix of two or three Ad Providers, as it offers more rich experience and better outcome in the end.

Here are some Alternates of Adsense.

Quick SEO Tip: URL canonicalization and 301 re-dirrect

Canonicalization is the process of picking the best url when there are several choices, and it usually refers to home pages. For example, most people would consider these the same urls:

www.example.com
example.com/
www.example.com/index.html
example.com/home.asp
But technically all of these urls are different. A web server could return completely different content for all the urls above. When Google “canonicalizes” a url, we try to pick the url that seems like the best representative from that set.

It does not matter if you pick proper URL canonicalization pointing to the www’s or non-www’s, but you need to pick one and stick to it. I personally always choose the www’s because more people (from my experience) tend to link to you with the full URL.

Why canonicalize?

Its all about SEO. As you know linking is most important SEO activity. If two sites are linking you, one at wisacc.com and one at www.wisacc.com, Google will consider then two seprate pages, and your home page will not reap the benefit of two links. So be sure that any variation of the homepage URL needs to be redirected to one URL, whichever you choose.

Any extension of your URL like:

• http://www.example.com/anything (that goes to homepage)

All need to be pointed to the main – http://www.example.com (without any extensions). You also need to make sure that you don’t have any dev links that need to be 301-ed to their new addresses so you don’t have any bad or dead links on the site.

How to canonicalize?

You can handle all these changes via the .htaccess file. Here is a little code that can help you:

RewriteEngine On

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^yourdomain.com
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.yourdomain.com/$1 [R=301,L
]

(Make sure your Apache installation has mod_rewrite enabled.)

As long as your Apache installation has mod_rewrite enabled then you should be able to use this fix on almost any host.

Note: use these two lines to redirect all variations of home page seprately.
